Christ Ascended

Thursday, 21 May 2020 was Ascension Day. Ascension Day means that on this day Jesus ascended into heaven. Ascension Day was celebrated forty days after the resurrection of Jesus. Pentecost which is one of the seven feasts of the Jewish holidays is celebrated 10 days after Ascension Day.

Acts 1:1-3 “The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, 3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. 4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me.”

Acts 1:9 “Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.”

Luke wrote both the book of Luke and Acts of the Apostle and the ascension of Jesus is also recorded in:

Luke 24:50-53 “And He (Jesus) led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.”

As believers in Christ, we look forward to the day Christ returns to earth and the Bible says that in the same manner that He ascended He will come back. In this article I would like talk about what does Jesus the Christ mean? Is Christ Jesus’s surname?

Trusting God in Lockdown

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”                 Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)

Being confined within our homes during this COVID-19 pandemic ‘lockdown’ period has raised many questions about life. Life is described as a journey from the day we are born to the day we leave this earth. Just like any journey, the road is straight, has sharp bends, hilly, flat, etc.

It reminded me when Lisha and I celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary and we decided to spend the weekend at Drakensberg Gardens Resort. This was our very first trip to this resort and we were told that the trip would take over 2 hours from Pietermaritzburg. Check in time was 14h00 so we decided to leave Pietermaritzburg around lunch time. The weather was fabulous with the sun basking down on us and blue skies.
